24/7 NOC
Proactive monitoring — disk SMART plus system metrics — with real-time alerts through our dedicated stack. 24/7 remote hands and hot-swap replacement of failed drives — guaranteed 99.9% uptime and resources that stay available.
Beyond Standard
There is life beyond Standard. We propose the baseline, you take it further — any variation from the standard configurations is possible. Write to us and we build it. Your idea, our challenge.
Managed or self-managed
You choose the RAID type (1, 5, 6 or 10) and how it is managed: on your own (self-managed) or fully managed by us, with disk monitoring included.
Bare-metal access
No hypervisor and no virtualization layer — native access to the RAID controller and physical drives for predictable IOPS and low latency, without overhead.
Dedicated storage servers: common use cases and deployment scenarios
Consistent capacity for backup and disaster recovery, archiving, NAS, S3-compatible object storage, media libraries and video surveillance.
Backup & Disaster Recovery
Offsite backups, replication and disaster recovery plans, with generous space and RAID redundancy.
Archiving & Cold Storage

What is a storage server and how does it work?
A storage server is a dedicated physical server optimized for large data capacity — with multiple drives (SAS HDD, enterprise SSD or NVMe) grouped into a RAID array for capacity and redundancy. All resources are yours alone, with no sharing between customers.
At maghost, every storage server includes full root access and a hardware RAID controller, allowing you to organize volumes and file systems exactly as needed. Our infrastructure is designed for data integrity, and our technical support team is available 24/7. -
What types of drives can I choose: SAS HDD, SSD or NVMe?
It depends on the capacity/speed ratio you need:
• SAS HDD – the best cost per terabyte, ideal for backup, archiving and high raw capacity
• Enterprise SSD – a balance between speed and capacity, for frequently accessed data
• NVMe – maximum transfer speed and IOPS, for databases and latency-sensitive applications
You can combine multiple drive types in the same server, such as NVMe for cache + SAS HDD for capacity, and maghost consultants help you choose the right configuration. -
What does hosting on a storage server mean?
Hosting on a storage server means you rent your own high-capacity physical server inside a data center and get exclusive access to its drives and transfer speed. There are no digital neighbors affecting your performance or space, as can happen with shared hosting or some VPS environments.
maghost provides production-ready storage servers with configured RAID, scalable options and real human technical support. It is the recommended solution for backup, archiving, NAS, object storage or large media libraries. -
What is the difference between a storage server and a Storage VPS?
A Storage VPS is a virtual machine with large storage capacity, but created on shared hardware — capacity and transfer speed can be influenced by activity from others on the same server.
A dedicated storage server, on the other hand, gives you all drives and the RAID controller exclusively. That means:
• Predictable capacity – no shared I/O
• High density – tens to hundreds of TB on a single server
• Real RAID control – you choose the redundancy level
Choose a dedicated storage server from maghost when your data volume and need for consistent transfer speed have outgrown a VPS. -
When should I choose a storage server? What are the benefits?
Storage servers are recommended when:
• You need tens or hundreds of TB for backup and archiving
• You run NAS, object storage or a private cloud
• You store long-term video surveillance recordings
• You manage media libraries or Big Data datasets
The benefits are clear: minimum cost per terabyte, exclusive capacity, redundant RAID, advanced tuning possibilities and real technical support — all translating into data integrity, scalability and consistent transfer speed. -
How long does it take to deliver a storage server?
Delivery time depends on the configuration:
• For standard servers, activated automatically, delivery can take less than 30 minutes.
• For custom servers, with drives and RAID assembled on request, the average delivery time is 12–24 hours.
maghost prioritizes efficiency without compromising delivery quality – every server goes through a stability test and SMART disk checks before activation. -
Can I upgrade capacity later?
Absolutely. If you feel the available space is no longer enough, the maghost team can help you add drives or migrate to a higher-density server.
We plan the expansion together, including RAID reconfiguration when needed, to avoid data loss and downtime. It is a natural upgrade path for growing projects. -
Which storage server model should I choose?
It depends on your use case. Here is a quick reference:
• Backup and archiving: SAS HDD, 4–12 drives, RAID 5/6, minimum cost per TB
• NAS / private cloud: SSD + HDD mix, RAID 10, balanced transfer speed
• Object storage / Big Data: high disk density, 10 Gbps port, RAID 6 or JBOD
maghost consultants are available for personalized recommendations – we make sure you get exactly the capacity you need, without wasting resources. -
Where is my storage server located?
maghost storage servers are hosted in Tier III data centers in Romania, directly connected to major national and international networks.
This means:
• Very low latency for users in Romania and Central Europe
• Local support with fast on-site intervention
• Full compliance with EU legislation (GDPR) – your data remains stored inside the European Union
We make sure every storage server runs in a secure, redundant and 24/7 monitored environment, with dual power feeds and multiple internet connections. -
Are there any extra costs besides the storage server price?
In general, the price displayed on the maghost website includes everything you need to get started:
• Full root access, RAID controller and dedicated connection
• Basic software firewall and DDoS protection
• 24/7 human technical support
There may be optional additional costs, depending on:
• Additional drives or capacity upgrades
• Automatic offsite backup
• Additional IP addresses
• Software licenses, such as Windows Server or cPanel
• Proactive management services
We do not charge hidden fees, and every offer is transparent. We tell you from the start what you pay and what you get. -
What file system and operating system can I use? Can it be customized?
maghost gives you full flexibility:
• File systems: ext4, XFS, Btrfs or ZFS (with snapshots and checksums for data integrity)
• Linux distributions: Ubuntu, AlmaLinux, Debian, Rocky Linux, CentOS etc.
• Windows Server: 2019, 2022 (optional licensing)
• TrueNAS, Unraid or your own images (on request)
If you have special requirements such as advanced RAID configurations, LVM partitions or ZFS pools, we can help implement them. Storage becomes truly turnkey, but built around your specifications. -
What happens if a disk fails? How does RAID work?
With a redundant RAID array (5, 6 or 10), your data can survive the failure of one or more disks without data loss. We proactively monitor disk SMART status and replace failed drives, followed by the automatic rebuild of the array.
Recommendations:
• Use RAID 6 or 10 for large capacity and stronger safety
• Keep an offsite backup – RAID does NOT replace backup
• Enable SMART alerts for early intervention
The maghost team responds quickly, so your data integrity remains protected. -
Is my data safe on a storage server?
Yes. With a dedicated storage server, you get one of the strongest forms of physical isolation and redundancy. maghost extends this hardware advantage with:
• Redundant RAID for protection against disk failures
• Active DDoS protection, available on all servers
• Software firewall and network-level filtering options
• Optional automatic offsite backup, on request
• Secure access via SSH or RDP
We recommend encrypting sensitive files (LUKS / ZFS encryption) and enabling two-factor authentication wherever possible. -
What is maghost's IPv4 address policy?
Each storage server includes 1 static IPv4 address. If you need more IPs — for multiple object storage nodes, dedicated SSLs or applications requiring separate routing — you can request additional IP addresses.
maghost follows a responsible allocation policy: IP addresses are assigned only based on a technical justification, in line with RIPE standards. This helps prevent abuse and contributes to maintaining a strong reputation for our customers across the global Internet. -
Is there a contract period or can I cancel anytime?
At maghost, we believe in customer freedom, not contractual lock-ins:
• You can cancel anytime – no penalties, no unnecessary questions
• Billing is monthly, with the option to pay in advance for discounts
• You receive notifications before the renewal date
This gives you full control over your budget and lets you adapt storage capacity as your needs change.
